Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd. (Yuchai Marine Power), located in the Fushan Industrial Park of Doumen, recently signed a contract with Winterthur Engine Co., Ltd. (Win GD), becoming the world’s first company to obtain a license to produce Win GD’s two-stroke dual-fuel engines. Assembly of Yuchai Marine Power’s first dual-fuel engine, the 5RT-flex50DF, has been completed and is scheduled for delivery in the first half of this year. This will become the world’s first commercially available dual-fuel low-speed marine engine.
Wärtsilä (formerly Winterthur Engines GmbH) launched low-pressure dual-fuel technology for its two-stroke engines in November 2013. This technology offers significant benefits in capital expenditure and operating expenditure, while also enabling compliance with IMO Tier III emissions standards when operating in gas mode without the need for an exhaust gas cleaning system.
A relevant person in charge of Yuchai Marine Power said that the signing of this agreement marks that the cooperation between Yuchai and Wärtsilä has reached a new level and will be a new and important milestone in the development history of two-stroke marine engines. It will also help the great development of Zhuhai’s high-end equipment manufacturing industry.
